Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR) organizes Colloquium on Nonequilibrium phenomena in strongly correlated systems, Dubna, 18 - 19 April, 2018 - Satellite to the II International Workshop on Simulations of HIC for NICA energies.

The goal of the Colloquium is to strengthen the interaction between scientists working in different fields of physics. Nonequilibrium physics is of fundamental relevance for many phenomena, occurring at highest energy densities such as heavy ion collisions, but also for condensed matter physics and ultracold gases. Simple approaches such as the Boltzmann equation become questionable when strong correlations are formed in the system. The problems to be solved in different areas are connected with concepts to formulate nonequilibrium theory. As an example, the Zubarev method of the nonequilibrium statistical operator is mentioned.

The first day (April 18) is devoted to high energy physics. Highly excited matter, possibly a quark-gluon plasma, is formed in heavy ion collisions. The time evolution as described by kinetic equations, transport codes, or reaction networks, should also include the formation of correlations, in particular bound states.

The second day (April 19, 9:30 – 16:30 h) is devoted to condensed matter physics. 30-minute presentations are planned which cover different topics of many-body theory of strongly correlated systems, in particular nonequilibrium phenomena in solids, liquids and plasmas.

In particular, the Colloquium is devoted to the memory of D. N. Zubarev (1917-1992) who contributed to both fields, with the method of Green functions to treat strongly correlated systems and the method of the nonequilibrium statistical operator to describe nonequilibrium phenomena.

Colloqium on Nonequilibrium phenomena in strongly correlated systems follows directly after the II International Workshop on Simulations of HIC for NICA energies, Dubna, 16 - 18 April, 2018
