Announcement

XIIth International Conference on "Selected Problems of Modern Physics" (Blokhintsev'03) to be held in Dubna on June 8 - 11, 2003 is dedicated to the 95th anniversary of the birth of D.I. Blokhintsev (1908-1979), an outstanding Russian physicist, organizer, and the first director of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR).

The conference topics are defined by those areas of physics in which D.I. Blokhintsev made significant contributions and which found the extensive development at JINR. The conference is divided in two sections.

Section I is a continuation of the conferences initiated by D.I. Blokhintsev, first, in the form of small workshops on nonlocal, nonlinear and nonrenormalizable field theories. The first workshop of this series was held in Dubna in 1967 when quantum field theory was considered as a direction without a perspective in elementary particle physics. Later, these workshops gradually transformed into the representative International Conferences on fundamental problems of quantum field theory.

Section II is devoted to the use of pulsed reactors of different types (self-quenching, periodical, busters) for physical research and the discussion of new trends in the development of pulsed neutron sources.

The total number of participants is expected to be about 250. The Conference program will include invited talks and original oral contributions that will be chosen by the Organizing Committee. The Conference language will be English. One of the conference sessions will be devoted to the scientific and organizational activity of D.I. Blokhintsev.

The registration fee is 300 USD for a participant and 200 USD for an accompanying person. It covers the transportation by car from airport to Dubna and back, accommodation in a hotel (5 nights, single room, breakfast), the break refreshments, social program, and a copy of the Proceedings of the Conference. The Organizing Committee is looking for a possibility of providing the financial support for the participants from Russia and other members of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). The registration fee should be paid by cash only.

Arrival of the participants at Dubna is expected to be on Saturday, June 7, and the departure on Thursday, June 12.

The Proceedings (two books) will be published by the JINR Publishing Department.

If you are going to participate in Blokhintsev'03, please:

List of Talks and Programme

The Organizing Committee has considered the applications received and selected the talks to be presented at the Conference sessions. The time-table of the conference is now available and can be downlowded from our web-site. For Section I there are two formats: short ant long. The short table includes: the time and place for each session, names of speakers with durations of their talks. The long time-table contains detailed information including talk titles, the time of beginning for each talk, and the institution of the speaker. There is only a long time-table for Section I available. All lists and time-tables are stored in the PostScript and PDF formats. Some files are available in the format for a Microsoft Word document.

Miscellaneous

CURRENCY. Money can be exchanged at Moscow International Airport Sheremetyevo (24 hours service) or at any major bank in Moscow or Dubna (open from 10 a.m. till 4 p.m. from Monday through Friday except the lunch time). Personal and travel checks, as well as credit cards are not usually accepted.

CLIMATE. The weather in Dubna at the end of June is mostly sunny with average temperature of about 20 - 22 degrees centigrade. It might be cool and humid with occasional rain showers.

CONFERENCE SITE. Dubna is a small and quiet town well known as an international scientific center for basic studies of nuclei and elementary particles. It is situated 120 km north of Moscow on the picturesque banks of the great Russian river Volga. Its surroundings offer peaceful rural scenery which, though having no famous monuments, keeps memories of the past. A 2-2.5 hour trip brings you to Moscow, the capital of Russia; to Sergiev Posad, the Russian Orthodox centre with its 500-years-old Trinity-Monastery; to Fedoskino, the centre of the traditional Russian lacquer box craft; to a little town Klin with its memorial museum of the great Russian composer Tchaikovsky; and to many other places of interest on the ancient Russian territory. More information about Dubna can be found at the official web-site of Dubna.

Registration

The registration of participants will take place on June 7 since 17:00 till 21:30 in a room near the reception of hotel "Dubna". For the participants of Section I, it will continue on June 8 morning in the Bogoliubov Laboratory of Theoretical Physics building at the second floor.

Proceedings

We would like to inform you that Proceedings of XII International confernce on "Selected Problems of Modern Physics" (1 volume) are expected to be published by the Publishing Department of JINR (Dubna). The Proceedings will mainly comprise the plenary talks. The authors of parallel session talks interested in publication in the Proceedings should present a hard copy of their contribution to the Organizing Committee for reviewing and selection.

The Proceedings will be printed from camera-ready manuscripts. Manuscripts must be prepared in the LaTeX2e format. Please, use our proceedings style file pqft.sty. The template is attached below. All figures should be given in EPS or PostScript format. In this format the page limitations of talks at plenary and parallel sessions are 12 pages and 5 pages, respectively.

Users of old version of LaTeX compiler (LaTeX2.09 ) should download the file pqft209.sty.

The deadline for submitting papers (LaTeX2e files for plenary talks and hard copies with LaTeX2e files for parallel session talks) is September 15, 2003. The Organizing Committee will appreciate it very much if you could provide us with your manuscript at the Conference.

The guidelines on how to use the pqft.sty file can read from here.
